Peanuuuuut Peanut Butter

by Adrienne Van Houten on February 27, 2012

I was invited to a fun event last week by the National Peanut Board that there was no way I was going to miss.  It involved one of the greatest foods ever invented – Peanut Butter!

Initially Caitlyn was supposed to be with her dad that weekend so I invited a friend’s grand daughter – Madison – to go with me.  At the last minute Caity was able to attend so I had two escorts with me.  Caitlyn loves to cook and peanut butter is by far one of her absolute favorite foods.  Madison is a master baker at the tender age of 13, and she is amazing with all my grands, so having her along was going to be a bonus for all involved.  Add to it that the event was going to be held at Sur La Table in the LA Farmer’s Market and we were all very excited!

We were treated to a fun demonstration by Chef LaLa on how to make a healthy breakfast with peanut butter as a main ingredient and then each team (family unit) was challenged to come up with an idea of their own using a bunch of pantry ingredients.

We decided to name our team the Peanut Butter Lovers and Caitlyn and Madison took over the creating, while I sat on the sidelines nursing a sore knee.

Madison made a peanut butter and banana wrap with strawberry and apple slices.  Caitlyn made a peanut butter and banana wrap with green grapes and cinnamon, with heart shaped apple slices as garnish.

There were 10 teams total and a bunch of yummy looking entries, but only 1 team could win and it was ours!

We won a gift card to Sur La Table and the girls went shopping for fun kitchen stuff after wards.

You can find lots of yummy peanut butter recipes on the National Peanut Board Web Site or you can have fun with your kids creating your own!

Peanut butter is definitely in my top 3 favorite foods – and love your girls’ creativity with the wraps! Great on-the-go breakfast or lunch.

I go for weeks without eating peanut butter and then rediscover it with a vengeance. Love it with apples. Thanks for sharing.
