Joyful Noise

There are two reasons people will go see this movie – Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton.  And for those reasons people, like me, will be sorely disappointed.  Two better reasons would be Jeremy Jordan and Keke Palmer.

The story is good, a church choir going through competition, the loss of their leader, the inclusion of a “rebel”, and all the trials and tribulations that come with it.

The production and quality of the film is poor at best.  Dolly Parton looks like she was photo shopped in to most of the scenes.  There is one scene where Jeremy Jordan is singing “Baby I’m Amazed” and Dolly is standing behind him to stage left.  All you can see in that scene is Dolly’s big head hovering over Jeremy’s shoulder.  It is awful and takes away from the great song and touching moment.

The singing is fabulous.  Dolly and Queen have still got that going for them, I would buy the soundtrack in a heartbeat if only for the final song.

My recommendation is wait for the DVD or just buy the sound track.

I wouldn’t go see this one if you paid me. The story looks trite and silly (white boy saves black choir) and, you are right about Dolly Parton, she looks awful. Worse than Cher. And that is really saying something.

I second what Erika says. I’m sorry you had to waste your time watching it!
